NextGEN PROVINCIAL TRAINING PROGRAM

The NextGEN Provincial Training Program focuses on athletes within the Train to Train and Learn to Compete stages of THE Long Term Development (LTD) model. In collaboration with Speed Skating Canada and Ontario’s clubs, OSSA is committed to the continued development of the provincial LTD pathway by providing high performance training opportunities to identified athletes within both the short track and the long track disciplines.

The NextGEN Provincial Training Program is designed to:
-  Increase the participation of Ontario’s athletes at national events;

-  Increase the medal potential at Canadian Youth Short Track Championships, National Short Track Ranking events, Canadian Youth Long Track Championships, National Long Track Ranking events, and the 2023 Canada Winter Games;

-  Prepare Ontario athletes to transition to national training centers;

-  Increase the number of qualified coaches throughout Ontario who support OSSA’s High Performance Management Plan

The format of the NextGEN Provincial Training Program for the 2020-2021 season is currently being reviewed.

The program will develop both short track and long track athletes in Ontario. Athletes invited into the NextGEN Provincial Training Program must be Ontario residents and be registered members of the Ontario Speed Skating Association.

The 2020-2025 High Performance Management Plan, which will guide the NextGEN Provincial Training Program in the coming years, is currently under review.
