About The Event

This intensive online program is for coaches that work with developing athletes in a competitive context. The focus shall be on introducing advanced coaching practices and how these practices can be applied in a club setting. Topics of discussion shall include tactics, techniques, basic sport psychology, building training plans, analysis of technical skills and the critical influence of equipment on performance. Participants are expected to prepare for each interactive session through prepared readings, videos, surveys and other assigned activities in advance of each session.

Speed Skating Ontario is hosting an online Introduction to Competition Coach course. Course dates include: November 7, November 28, December 12, 2024 and January 9, 2025. This intensive online program is for coaches that work with developing athletes in a competitive context. The focus shall be on introducing advanced coaching practices and how these practices can be applied in a club setting. Topics of discussion shall include tactics, techniques, basic sport psychology, building training plans, analysis of technical skills and the critical influence of equipment on performance. Participants are expected to prepare for each interactive session through prepared readings, videos, surveys and other assigned activities in advance of each session. The minimum age for this course is 16 years old as of November 7, 2024. The cost of the whole course is $400 + HST ($452.00 total). For participants who only need to take Part A or Part B, the cost is $225 + HST ($254.25) Ontario participants can apply for the NCCP Coach Bursary Program through the Coaches Association of Ontario. Up to a maximum of $300 per individual in the fiscal year (April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025) will be available to cover up to 60% of eligible course registration fees (workshop training) and up to 90% for completion of certification process (portfolio + evaluation). The full course amount must be paid to SSO, and then the Coach in Training can submit to the CAO Bursary to be reimbursed (https://www.coachesontario.ca/programs-resources/funding-for-coaches/). Please send payment via an e-transfer to executivedirector@ontariospeedskating.ca using the password OSSA24, or via cheque made out to OSSA and sent to 100 St Charles Street East, Maryhill, ON N0B 2B0. Please include the name of the participant in the subject line of your payment. The course contains curriculum from the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Speed Skating Ontario delivers this course using sport-specific material from Speed Skating Canada.
